SPARKS - The Nevada Department of Agriculture and the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension are offering a Pesticide Applicator Training Workshop on Feb. 2. The training will be held by videoconference in Reno and broadcast to Lovelock, Winnemucca, Battle Mountain, Eureka, Fallon and Tonopah.
The training will focus on pesticide laws and safety and environmental protection, as well as insect, rodent and weed management.
The workshop will help prepare individuals who are planning on taking the state pesticide applicator certification exam. Exams will be given in Winnemucca on Feb. 7 and in Sparks and Eureka on Feb. 8. Pesticide exam fees are $25. Study material for the exam is available from local Cooperative Extension offices for $15.
In addition, up to six continuing education credits will be available to pesticide applicators that are currently certified or licensed. Applicators who want continuing education units should bring a valid license or certificate to the workshop.
Workshops will be held at Nevada Cooperative Extension offices at these locations: 111 Sheckler Road in Fallon; 1085 Fairgrounds Road in Winnemucca; 815 N. Second St. in Battle Mountain; 701 S. Main St. in Eureka; 810 Sixth St. in Lovelock; and #1 Frankee Street (Old Court House) in Tonopah.
Registration for all of the workshops will start at 7:30 a.m. and training will begin at 8 a.m. on Feb. 2.
