Deadline approaching for Tri-County Fair exhibitors

WINNEMUCCA - Attention blue ribbon contenders: In about a week, the books will close on another Tri-County Fair.

Paper entries to the Fair are due to the Winnemucca Convention Center or the Humboldt County Cooperative Extension by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24. Online entries will be accepted through 11:59 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25.

According to Tri-County Fair Board Chairman Darrel Field, returning exhibitors will need to create a new online account as user accounts do not carry over. The secure site will ask only for the information necessary to process entries.

Those who prefer to mail in paper entries will also find everything they need to participate in this year's event at www.LaborDayFair.com or in the 2012 Fair Guide.

This year's Tri-County Fair & Stampede will take place from Thursday, Aug. 30, through Sunday, Sept. 2. Not only will the Labor Day event provide area residents with the opportunity to display their talents, but the weekend also promises great entertainment, food and plenty of good times.

"We have planned a very fun weekend," said Darrel Field, chairman of this year's Tri-County Fair Board. "There are so many things to do, and the majority of them are free. We specifically planned this year to be a really fun end-of-summer celebration."

This year the Fair will offer competition in more than 20 different divisions, including Ceramics, Crafts, Creative Arts, Crocheting/Knitting, Digital Arts, Fine Arts, Floriculture, Foods, Food Preservation, Fruits/Vegetables/Crops, Handwork/Needlework, Photography, Quilting, Recycling, Sewing, and Youth Division.

Additionally, some old favorites are returning this year including the Potato Critters competition, the Create-a-Picture, Write-a-Story, Coloring, Pie and Watermelon Eating contests, the Biggest Home Grown contest, The Mutt Show, Mini-Construction Projects, the Pig Wrestling contest and the Great Basin Challenge.

A Cake Decorating Contest will also return in commemoration of the Tri-County Fair's 91st anniversary.

A complete schedule of events is included in the 2012 Fair Guide Book. Copies are available at the Winnemucca Convention Center; the Humboldt County Extension Office; the Humboldt County Chamber of Commerce; the Humboldt County Library; the Winnemucca Events Complex office; Denio Junction; the Paradise, Orovada and McDermitt post offices; the Battle Mountain Chamber of Commerce; the Lovelock Chamber of Commerce; or online at www.LaborDayFair.com.
