Déjà vu as Lowry heads south to face Moapa Valley again

WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School football team is the last Humboldt County squad to be playing this fall. The Buckaroos travel to Overton on Saturday to face Moapa Valley in the semifinals of the NIAA Division I-A state playoffs.

Lowry enters the game at 10-1, with the Buckaroos coming off a 47-14 win over Churchill County on Friday night in Winnemucca. Moapa Valley is 11-1 on the season and beat Mojave 36-32 on Friday night in Overton in a Division I-A South semifinal.

The Pirates are currently on an 11-game winning streak, while the Buckaroos have nine victories in a row.

Moapa Valley ended Lowry's season a year ago with a 19-6 win in the state semifinals, even though Lowry had the ball six times inside the Pirates' 20-yard line.

If the Buckaroos win they will play the winner of the Truckee and Cheyenne game on Saturday, Nov. 17. The state championship game is set to be played at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. However, if there are two northern teams playing in the title game, it will be moved to a site in northern Nevada.

Lowry last played in the state championship game in 1992 in Las Vegas, losing to Moapa Valley 17-0.
