WINNEMUCCA - Cyanco, a manufacturer of liquid sodium cyanide for the mining industry, hosted its annual Cyanide Trainers Meeting in Winnemucca on June 28.
More than 60 trainers from customer minesites attended the training, which started at the Winnemucca Convention Center. Attendees were given a Cyanide Safety, train-the-trainer class, followed by a Process, Transportation, and Emergency Response Overview covering the systems in place at Cyanco.
The group then proceeded to the Cyanco production facility 7 miles west of Winnemucca for plant tours and a hosted luncheon. The tour included emergency response equipment, transportation units, incoming raw materials and outgoing product in addition to production units and the Control Room.
Cyanco has been producing liquid sodium cyanide at its Winnemucca production facility since 1990. As demand for cyanide has grown, Cyanco has increased production capacity and is now supplying customers throughout North America from its Winnemucca plant.
Cyanco is currently constructing a solid sodium cyanide plant in Houston, Texas, to supply international demand. The plant is scheduled to start production later this year.
Safe production is the main goal at Cyanco. Plant workers have recently eclipsed 1½ years with no OSHA recordable incidents and more than 4½ years with no Lost Time Accidents.
