LOVELOCK - Cub Scouts Pack 890 held their third-annual Mother and Son Tea on May 19 at the Village Baking bakery in Lovelock.
Pack leader Linda Whyte said the event is held to show appreciation for mothers and grandmothers.
"The mothers do so much work with their sons helping with meetings and helping their sons with the activities that earn their patches," she said. "It's a way of thanking them."
"Cub Scout activities encourage the scouts to do things with their parents," Whyte added.
Scouts earn patches in a variety of ways, including family bike rides and visiting zoos, farms and museums as a family.
"I think I am going to have a lot of fun. I think camping is going to really be great," said Tanner Woodard, the newest member of Pack 890.
In Whyte's opinion, scouting events instill a respect for home and family. "Men who were not taught that respect often end up incarcerated. If I can keep even one boy out of incarceration, I've done my job."
The Cub Scouts also have activities geared toward spending time with the male members of the family.
Chase Pruitt was a semi-finalist in the recently held Pine Wood Derby, with the help of his dad and grandpa, he said.
Monteith won Most Creative Pine Wood Derby car. He said he is looking forward to bike riding with his family.
Cub Scout Pack 890 has few members right now. Whyte attributed the low membership to families who have moved and scouts who have advanced into Webelos. This year she said the Pack is continuing activities into the summer vacation. She encourages any parents interested in enrolling their sons in Cub Scouts to call her at 273-7532. Boys in first through fourth grades are eligible to join.
