With just a couple of weeks left before the regional championships, the Lowry High School track and field team prepped for the postseason last Saturday at the Carson Invitational.
Auri Criddle led the Lady Bucks with a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.75 seconds, which was best among Division I-A schools. Damonte Ranch's Gabriella Jacobs won the race at 15.09. The junior also added a seventh-place outing in the 200 meters at 27.40, which was fourth best among Division I-A runners. Dayton's Lettie Lynch won with a time of 26.70.
Kenadee Jeppsen continued her strong freshman campaign with three finishes in the top seven. She placed fifth in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 8 inches. That mark led the way in Division I-A. Jeppsen was seventh in the long jump with a mark of 14-11 and seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 30-10.50.
Rachel Sigurdson was sixth in the pole vault, clearing 8-6, which was best in Division I-A and the senior had the same height in the high jump as Jeppsen at 4-8 to place sixth. Jillian Albright and Madison Montero were eighth and ninth in the pole vault at 7-6 and 7-0, respectively.
Monique Rodriguez placed 11th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.03 and the 4x200 relay of Albright, Rodriguez, Audrey Snow and Montero were fifth in a time of 1:51, which was second-best in the Division I-A behind Spring Creek.
Dani Ricker was one of three girls to leap 28-3 in the triple jump to place 17th, Mikayla Wilke finished 18th in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.90 and Alexis Allen was 20th in the 800 meters at 2:57.25.
The Lady Bucks finished eighth as a team with 30.50 points. Carson won the team title with 115.50 points and Damonte Ranch and Spring Creek tied for second with 90 points. Douglas (84) and Dayton (48) rounded out the top five.
On the boys side, Roberto Sanchez led the Buckaroos with a ninth-place finish in the high jump at 5-8. Liam Gallups placed ninth in the 3,200 meters in a time of 10:54.61 and Hayden Jeppsen was 15th in the 3,200 meters at 11:28.00.
Sergio Castaneda finished 10th in the shot put with a toss of 42-10.75 and was 12th in the discus at 124-2. He was second-best among Division I-A schools in the shot put and third in the discus.
Kelvin Meza (55.50) and Jed Teichert (58.20) were 12th and 21st, respectively in the 400 meters. Robert Stepper placed 13th in the high jump at 5-6 and Carlos Aguilar finished 20th in the 100-meter dash at 11.90. Ariel Gonzalez was 22nd in the 200 meters with a time of 25.00, Kobe Fitzpatrick was 22nd in the 800 meters at 2:19.61 and Drake Kavanaugh was 19th in the discus with a toss of 114-1.
The Buckaroos finished 21st with 2.5 points, while Douglas claimed the team title with 114 points. Carson was second with 94 points and Dayton third at 75. Damonte Ranch (65) and Hug (58) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
