WINNEMUCCA - Track and field teams from northern Nevada had their last chance to get ready for the regional championships, as 21 schools made their way to Winnemucca this past Saturday for the Lowry Invitational.

The Buckaroos had a chance to see seven of the nine other teams in the Division I-A North, with Truckee and South Tahoe not making the trip west.

The Lady Bucks placed fifth as a team with 63.51 points. Spring Creek won the team title with 158.17 points, followed by Elko (146), Churchill County (91.51) and Dayton (90.85).

The Lowry boys were seventh with 36.5 points. Churchill County left as the runaway winner at 182.50 points, while Spring Creek (108) and Elko (106) were second and third, respectively. Dayton (76) and Yerington (46) rounded out the top five.

Auri Criddle led the way for the Lady Bucks, as she finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 26.84 seconds, which was .03 seconds behind Dayton's Lettie Lynch. Criddle also turned in a strong outing in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing fifth at 17.21.

Cody Andersen paced the boys squad, finishing second in the shot put with a toss of 48 feet, 5 inches. Dayton's Joshua Koch won the event with a throw of 51-7. Andersen was fourth in the discus, with a best mark of 131-11. Pershing County's Randolph McLean won with a throw of 145-1.

Taylor Martin and Sergio Castaneda were not far behind in the throwing events as Martin was third in the discus with a throw of 135-1 and the senior was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 44-0. Castaneda had his best outing of the day in the shot put, placing fifth with a throw of 45-0 and he was seventh in the discus at 125-3.

Robert Stepper, who is battling through a knee injury, was third in the high jump, as he cleared 5-10 and Hayden Jeppsen was eighth in the 3,200 meters (two-mile) in a time of 11:36.94.

Drake Kavanuagh was 10th in the discus with a throw at 115-8, to go with a 29th-place outing in the shot put at 35-7. Jeremiah Teichert was 11th in the pole vault, as he cleared 9-6 and 17th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 19.18. Michael Billingsley placed 13th in the pole vault at 9-0, while teammates Jeremiah Long-Pannell and Dusty Hamilton tied for 17th in the pole vault at 8-6.

Jacob Welty timed in at 2:31.45 to finish 14th in the 1,600 meters and the sophomore was 20th in the 800 meters in a time of 2:31.53. Kelvin Meza placed 14th in the 400 meters with a time of 56.89 and Frankie Flanders was 16th in the 300-meter hurdles at 46.95. Flanders also placed 22nd in the 200 meters (25.60) and 25th in the 100-meter dash at 12.49.

Beau Billingsley was 18th in the 100 meters at 12.15 and teammates Alan Mayorga (12.50) and Michael Wing (12.55) were 26th and 28th, respectively, in the 100 meters. Dylan Riddle placed 19th in the 200 meters with as time of 25.27, Nichols Maddox was 20th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.09 and Devin Morris finished 20th in the 1,600 meters at 5:34.58.

Ben Tyree placed 25th in the 1,600 meters at 5:43.44, Blake Hillyer was 26th in the 800 meters (2:45.92), Ethan Andrews was 29th in both the 800 meters (2:58.28) and the 1,600 meters (5:45.48) and Narinder Mall was 32nd in the long jump at 12-8.50.

The Lady Bucks had a number of strong finishes as well, starting with a third-place finish by senior Raven Black in the high jump, as she cleared 4-8. Black also placed fifth in the pole vault at 7-6.

Alex Schirrick was third in the 100-meter dash at 13.22, tying her with Spring Creek's Kellie Klinsman. Schirrick also placed 12th in the 200 meters, timing in at 28.67.

Freshman Jillian Albright placed sixth in the 800 meters in a time of 2:36, while teammates Jasmine Marchard and Courtney Boucher were seventh and eighth in the 3,200 meters with times of 14:53.45 and 15:55.50, respectively. In addition, Marchard was 14th in the 800 meters at 2L59.33.

Savannah Ingram led the throwers, as the senior finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 31-2. Ingram also placed sixth in the discus at 91-5.

Rachel Jones and Chandra Waner had top-10s in the throwing events, with Jones eighth in the shot put with a toss of 28-07 and Wanner was 10th in the shot put at 27-9. In addition, Jones was 12th in the discus (86-5) and Waner 19th in the discus at 77-4.

Dani Ricker recorded a sixth-place finish in the high jump at 4-6, ninth in the triple jump at 29-0.25 and 12th in the 100-meter hurdles at 18.88, while Hayley Hall finished eighth in the pole vault at 7-0.

Taylor LaTray placed 10th in the 400 meters at 1:07.50 and teammate Brittanie Lopez was 14th in the same event at 1:09.50. Alexis DeLaMora placed 15th in the 100 meters at 14.20 and was 20th in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 20.34 and MaElena Sanchez (3:09.23) and Haley Weber (3:12.46) were 16th and 19th in the 800 meters. Sanchez was also 18th in the triple jump with a leap of 26-4.75.

The 4x200 relay of Criddle, Meg Montero, LaTray and Schirrick were second at 1:51.55, while the 4x100 relay of Criddle, Monique Rodriguez, Schirrick and LaTray were fourth at 53.73. The four placers in the 4x100 relay were decided by little more than a second. The 4x800 relay of Jancy Ulch, Sanchez, Lopez and Albright were also fourth in a time of 11:48.51.

The Buckaroos make the trip to Yerington on Friday and Saturday for the Division I-A North Regional Championships. The meet starts at 3 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.

The top four placers from the meet advance to the NIAA State Championships, which will be held at Silverado High School in Las Vegas on Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18.
