The Battle Mountain Arts Presenters hosted their annual crab feed fundraiser at the Battle Mountain Civic Center on Feb. 15.

The doors opened promptly at 6 p.m. and the crowd was already lined up outside anticipating the all-you-can-eat Dungeness crab they were about to sit down and enjoy. The hosts also served several side dishes with the main course including green salad, beans, coleslaw, spaghetti, and bread.

Guests could buy 50/50 raffle tickets and tickets for 18 themed gift baskets that were compiled with items donated to BMAP for the event. This year the event was not a sellout but was close enough to fill the civic center and its parking lot. Shortly after 6 p.m. when the guests were seated and the side dishes delivered to the tables, a whistle was blown and several volunteers came carrying boxes of crab to all the tables.

Emcee Tony Moore and BMAP President Ami Rogers gave out several door prizes at the opening of the event. Moore has emceed the event for several years.

After dinner, tickets were drawn for the 18 gift baskets with different themes such as watching movies, camouflage items, bath items, kitchen items and a variety of other subjects. Moore also announced the 50/50 raffle winner Scott Bullock, winning approximately $600 and he, in turn, donated the cash to BMAP.

All during the event until 8 p.m. the guests are invited to participate in the silent dessert auction which had several cakes, bars, cupcakes and other sweets that would top off the dinner.

During the remainder of the evening, BMAP members and volunteers cleaned away dinner and guests were invited to dance and enjoy the live music of John Doe, a band from Fernley. This was the second year this band has performed at the event. The band played until midnight.

BMAP is dedicated to keeping the arts alive in Battle Mountain. Every year they bring professional artists to perform at the Battle Mountain Civic Center and in the Battle Mountain schools. The youth in the Battle Mountain community always look forward to performing with the experts from Missoula Children's Theatre brought in by BMAP. The children get to spend a week preparing for almost a Broadway show but in Battle Mountain. This fundraiser pays for this theatrical event for the students, and it is free to the students in the community.

BMAP officers are: Ami Rogers, president; Joni Davenport, vice president; and Bobbi Koll, secretary.[[In-content Ad]]
