County commissioners take leadership positions with national association

CARSON CITY - Several county commissioners from Nevada assumed leadership positions in the National Association of Counties (NACo) during their 78th annual conference in Ft. Worth, Texas which ended July 22.

Washoe County Commissioner Bonnie Weber and Mineral County Commissioner Jerrie Tipton were both elected to continue their service on the NACo Board of Directors, having been nominated by the Nevada Association of Counties.

This will be Commissioner Weber's sixth year representing Nevada on the NACo Board and Commissioner Tipton's third.

Nye County Commissioner Lorinda Wichman was also selected to continue as a member of NACo's Western Interstate Region Board of Directors joining Elko County Commissioner Demar Dahl.

Douglas County Commissioner Lee Bonner was appointed by incoming NACo President Linda Langston of Linn County, Iowa, to be the chairman of NACo's Telecommunications and Technology Steering Committee.

Lee will join only 12 other commissioners from across the nation who chair the steering committees. The Telecommunications and Technology Steering Committee addresses matters such as federal telecommunications and technology policies and how they affect counties, as well as federal and local government programs and innovations.
