County commissioners in Nevada assume leadership positions with national association

CARSON CITY - Several county commissioners from Nevada assumed leadership positions in the National Association of Counties (NACo) during their 78th annual conference in Fort Worth, Texas, which ended July 22.

Washoe County Commissioner Bonnie Weber and Mineral County Commissioner Jerrie Tipton were both elected to continue their service on the NACo board of directors, having been nominated by the Nevada Association of Counties.

This will be Commissioner Weber's sixth year representing Nevada on the NACo Board and Commissioner Tipton's third. Nye County Commissioner Lorinda Wichman was also selected to continue as a member of NACo's Western Interstate Region board of directors joining Elko County Commissioner Demar Dahl.

Douglas County Commissioner Lee Bonner was appointed by incoming NACo President Linda Langston of Linn County, Iowa, to be the chairman of NACo's Telecommunications and Technology Steering Committee.

Lee will join only 12 other commissioners from across the nation who chair the steering committees.  The Telecommunications and Technology Steering Committee addresses matters such as federal telecommunications and technology policies and how they affect counties, as well as federal and local government programs and innovations.

NACo is the only national organization that represents county governments in the United States. Founded in 1935, NACo provides essential services to the nation's 3,069 counties. NACo advances issues with a unified voice before the federal government, improves the public's understanding of county government, assists counties in finding and sharing innovative solutions through education and research, and provides value-added services to save counties and taxpayers money, according to a news release.
