CARSON CITY - New research released today by Connect Nevada shows that 95.36 percent of Nevada households have access to fixed broadband at a minimum of 10 Mbps download/1.5 Mbps upload. In October 2011, the data showed that 91.44 percent of the households had access across the state at these speeds.
"I am excited to see the consistent growth in broadband coverage for Nevada," said Lindsey Harmon, Connect Nevada's state program manager. "As we continue to work on access, adoption, and use across the state, we are confident that broadband availability will only continue to increase, giving residents a better quality of life and businesses the opportunity to grow."
Among the findings of the new broadband availability research:
• Broadband availability at 768 Kbps download/200 Kbps upload is now at 99.13 percent, not including mobile wireless services.
• Broadband availability at speeds of at least 10 Mbps download/1.5 Mbps upload increased from 91.44 percent in October 2011 to 95.36 percent in April 2014, excluding mobile wireless services.
• Broadband availability at speeds of at least 25 Mbps download/1.5 Mbps upload increased from 89.26 percent in October 2011 to 92.8 percent in April 2014, excluding mobile wireless services.
• Broadband availability at speeds of at least 100 Mbps download/1.5 Mbps upload increased from 0.34 percent in October 2011 to 91.26 percent in April 2014, excluding mobile wireless services.
• Cable broadband availability increased from 91.15 percent in October 2011 to 93.48 percent in April 2014.
This is the ninth comprehensive broadband availability data release from Connect Nevada through the State Broadband Initiative (SBI).
Connect Nevada's website is home to an innovative broadband mapping tool called My ConnectView offering unmatched views of Nevada's technology landscape. Residents and businesses are encouraged to use the interactive map to find area providers and help validate the data. To report that broadband is not available in a given area, consumers can fill out a broadband inquiry.
Connect Nevada's research was conducted as part of the SBI grant program for Nevada funded by the NTIA. The data were gathered in accordance with the requirements of the NTIA. The process begins by contacting all known providers in the state and providing information about the broadband mapping project. Information on broadband service areas is collected from each provider through voluntary participation and is subject to confidentiality protections. Connected Nation strives to maintain a flexible mapping process to collect data from providers in a variety of formats based on providers' technical capabilities and resources.
