I read the article about the County Commissioners and the people from Burning Man. It makes me angry that it looks like the "City Fathers" are at it again, trying to shut out any kind of business that this town/county can utilize.
In the article it states something about nudity and minors - what gives with these people. The "Burners" are only here for seven to 10 days a year, and they for the most part are well-educated people who spend lots and lots of money in area towns getting supplies, using the motels, eating in the restaurants and filling the towns' pockets full of money. This does not include the fact that they put in solar panels for our school, and our hospital, paid for the extra duty for security.
I also am amazed that 50,000 plus people, relatively strangers to each other can get together and there be so few arrests. When I was growing up in this town, the cowboys, both out of towners and locals, would do more damage to the town than these "Burners." This town is desperate for the money, and the organizers of "Burning Man" just hand over the dough, apparently with "no questions asked," so my question to the Commissioners is, "Where's the Beef?"
I guess there is some illegal drug activity which a small part of the people who go to "Burning Man" do, but I think that the majority of the people just want to have a week to rest and recreate with friends. No, I personally have never been to "Burning Man," but my family used to go camping out at the dry lake bed, also known as the playa, and in my old age now, I really don't feel the need to go out and eat the desert dirt/sand any time soon.
With all due respect to those who are supposed to make the decision, leave the ordinances, the laws, the "Burners" alone and try to concentrate on more urgent business.[[In-content Ad]]
