WINNEMUCCA - The Winnemucca Community Garden and the City of Winnemucca, Humboldt County Animal Shelter celebrated their first Dog Walk Fundraiser on Saturday, June 16.

The event was successful with lots of people participating, and there were even participants without dogs! There were 35 beautiful and excited dogs, and also 19 volunteers.

Animal Control Officer Connie Patterson was on hand and participated in the event. Chief of Police Eric Silva and his Miniature Dachshund also stopped by to lend their support. Desiree Hicks of the American Red Cross was available in the event basic first aid was needed, and Karen Lovelace of Humboldt County Search and Rescue was available for first aid for dogs. Lovelace and her German shepherd rescue dog, Captain, also participated in the walk.

Everyone had fun! There were refreshments for all, and an agility course for the dogs provided by Posh Pets and the Power Paws 4H Dog Club. Information was available about the community garden, and about a new community Dog Park that Posh Pets is attempting to establish.

The weather was beautiful. It was sunny and warm, with a mild breeze. The dogs returned from the walk and headed straight for the wading pools provided by Posh Pets.

The event yielded a total of $911.50. As indicated during promotions, half of the proceeds went to the City of Winnemucca, Humboldt County Animal Shelter, to use the funds as needed. The community garden retained half of the proceeds to help with the costs of future workshops and events.

Thank you to all who supported, participated in and volunteered and donated to this fun event. They hope to see you next year!
