Code yellow lockdown at Grass Valley lifted Wed. morning

Person of interest apprehended

WINNEMUCCA - Grass Valley Elementary School's code yellow lockdown was lifted Wednesday morning after notification that the person of police interest in the area was apprehended, according to Superintendant Dr. David Jensen.

The school had been on lockdown since the beginning of last week.

According to Jensen, a code yellow lockdown means that there is a heightened sense of awareness at the school. He said there is no direct threat to the students; it is simply a precautionary measure.

During a code yellow lockdown, the external doors of the school building are locked and there is more adult supervision while students are outside on the playground.

He said that there wasn't a drop in attendance during the lockdown and feedback from parents was positive. Jensen said that parents have been appreciative that the school district has taken the situation seriously.
