Clean energy video competition for high school students now open

$1,000 awarded to winners, sponsored by SET Energy Group

RENO - The SET (Stronger Economies Together) Energy Group, in cooperation with the Nevada Governor's Office of Energy, is seeking video entries from high school students in Nevada's nine western counties highlighting clean energy projects for their communities. Advance registration is requested by Sept. 12 with YouTube video submissions due Oct. 17. Winners will be announced on Nevada Day, Oct. 31, 2014.

The contest is open to all high school students, working individually or as teams, in grades eight to 11 as of May 2014. Students within the following counties are eligible: Churchill, Pershing, Storey, Lyon, Mineral, Humboldt, Douglas, Washoe County (rural) and Carson City.

Project winners will be hosted on the SET Energy Workgroup Facebook page. Categories include: 1. Residential; 2. Agriculture; 3. Industrial; 4. Small commercial; and 5. Government and municipalities. A $1,000 prize will be awarded to the winner of each of the five categories.

Videos should be no more than five minutes and provide all the pertinent details. The video submission should be directed toward the primary target audience - an investor looking to bring a business and jobs to your community and share with the audience how the community can support jobs in the field of clean energy. Videos will be judged by the SET Energy Group.

Lead by the SET Energy Group, the competition is designed to showcase clean energy related projects in rural Nevada that support and demonstrate clean energy technologies. It is also designed to educate Nevadans on the many ways abundant clean energy is already being used.

SET establishes an economic development blueprint for rural Nevada and enables communities and counties in rural America to work together in developing and implementing an economic development blueprint for their multi-county region that strategically builds on the current and emerging economic strengths of that region. SET Energy's goal is to expand the production and use of alternative and clean energy use within the region and increase the export of such energy outside the immediate region and across state lines in the form of products and services that create jobs.

SET is part of a nationally recognized program to develop and implement a regional economic development plan. SET collaborates with: USDA Rural Development, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Governor's Office of Economic Development, Western Nevada Development District

Sectors include: agribusiness, energy, manufacturing, tourism, access to capital, communication and networking, infrastructure improvement and workforce development.

More information, including known clean energy projects by county and video resources are available on the SET Energy Group Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/713270348686431/.
