WINNEMUCCA - If you want to see one of country music's hottest stars up close and personal this Labor Day weekend, you better act fast.
Clay Walker will perform for tri-county crowds on Saturday, August 31, at the Winnemucca Event Center. Krystal Keith, daughter of country superstar Toby Keith, will open the show.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., Krystal Keith will perform at 7:30 p.m. with Clay Walker following.
Winnemucca Convention and Visitors Authority Director Kim Petersen said the show is on its way to being sold out, "so we thought we better let folks know that if you want to be in that event center when Jake Owen performs, you need to act now."
Petersen said he has been amazed-and pleased-at the way tickets have flown out the door. "It was a gamble in the beginning, to see if folks would really support a big-name event like this, and our gamble is certainly paying off," he said.
Petersen said the concert will infuse the annual Tri-County Fair & Stampede Labor Day weekend with exciting energy that he hopes will spill over into the weekend's many other offerings, including the annual parade, carnival, competitions, new food vendors and, of course, the rodeo.
The Labor Day Rodeo will celebrate its 92nd year on Saturday, August 31. The solo performance will begin at 2 p.m. in the outdoor arena at the Winnemucca Events Complex.
Regular rodeo admission is $10 for adults and $4 for children, ages 6 to 12. Kids five and under get in free. Advance rodeo tickets are now available for $8 and $2 respectively at Boot Barn, C.B. Brown,
Ace Hardware, Ron's Seed & Supply and Tips Western.
"We would love for families to make a day of it," said Petersen. "Get there early, check out the fair, the carnival, attend the rodeo, and then cap off the night with the Jake Owen concert."
Petersen added, "We really encourage concert-goers to come early to beat the last minute parking rush and enjoy the fair."
All fair and concert participants should use the Fairground Drive entrance by A1 Towing and across from the Bureau of Land Management office. They should not use the entrance by the Maverick Country Store as parking will be very limited in that area.
Handicapped parking will be available in front of the Winnemucca Event Center (the large red building on the Winnemucca Events Complex campus) for the concert and fair. The building will also include a drop-off area. No parking will be allowed in front of the Fairgrounds Office.
The night of the concert, no coolers or backpacks will be allowed in the event center, and no pets will be allowed.
"We are asking everyone to take note of the revised parking as well as the other rules we have in place," said Petersen. "We are excited for this concert event. If everyone takes note of these changes, everyone can have a good time."
Petersen added, "You won't want to miss this show. It's going to be a great night."
