• Mayor Di An Putnam said September is Dystonia Awareness Month. Dystonia is a neurological disorder that causes muscles in the body to spasm and contract involuntarily, and the mayor said it was important for the public to be made aware.
• The Winnemucca Host Lions Club is planning ahead to next year's Fourth of July celebration. The council unanimously approved the use of Vesco Park for the annual event. Next year's event will again include the "Taste of Winnemucca" which was well-attended with a crowd of about 1,200 said Dawn Baldwin, event organizer.
• D3 Church also requested use of Vesco Park for a worship night on Friday, Oct. 3. Church representative Jen Anderson said there would be live music by "From the Dust" (D3 worship band) from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and s'mores would be served.
• The Northern Nevada Racing Association will be having a cruise night and drag race kickoff party on Thursday, Sept. 18 on Bridge Street (between First Street and Winnemucca Boulevard) prior to the drag races. Most businesses affected will be closed when the party begins at 6 p.m., and NNRA representatives said the business owners were supportive. A DJ will play music and the event will end at midnight.
• Public hearings were set for changes to a master plan designation from commercial to industrial and a zoning designation from general commercial to industrial for a property located east of US Highway 95 across from Ford New Holland.

Street and utility easement abandonment for a property located on Great Basin Drive and the site of the planned recreation center was tabled because a notice to the public needs to be published said City Attorney Kent Maher. The configuration would have to change before the city could formally abandon the easement.
• A water main easement abandonment for a property on Mountain Quail Court also requires a 10-day public notice.
• The city received a $223,851 grant from the FAA for airport signage and a generator, and the city will provide six percent ($14,923) matching funds toward the project. Only one contractor, CR Drake & Sons, bid on the work with a projected cost of $232,827. The council approved the bid, and will apply for a 15 percent FAA grant amendment to cover the funding shortage.
• Drought conditions in the area are allowing for work to be done on a sewer main that crosses the Humboldt River. A 240-foot section of pipe, which crosses the river between two manholes, will be replaced. The 21-inch pipe currently in place will be replaced with a 24-inch diameter PVC pipe and encased in concrete and which will allow for increased sewage and water inflow. Dewatering will need to be done despite the drought. The contract was awarded to Hunewill with an estimated cost of $44,838.
