City celebrates three men who helped shape Winnemucca

Robert Cashell, Red Sheppard and Ralph Whitworth to be honored

The city council promises an entertaining evening for those attending the dinner on Saturday evening, which will recognize the contributions of Robert Cashell, T.G. "Red" Sheppard and Ralph Whitworth to the City of Winnemucca. The evening will also include a tribute to Joe Mackie, who Winnemucca Mayor Di An Putnam said was a great promoter of the city, and who helped put the town on the map.

These three men, through their generosity, have had a huge impact on the history of Winnemucca, said Don Smit, a consultant for the city.

Putnam said each of these gentlemen had a vision for the city and contributing in their own unique way.

"I feel like we're moving into a new era, and I think it is important to acknowledge our past," said Putnam. "It will be a great night with stories told, remembrances and the history of how we became what we are today."

The celebration begins at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and includes dinner, drinks and storytelling. Tickets are $35 and are available at the door or at the city office. Group reservations are available, as well.

Dress is "Winnemucca casual" which just means to be comfortable, said Putnam.[[In-content Ad]]
