LOVELOCK - Pershing County Chukar's Unlimited is a local group dedicated to wildlife conservation in Pershing County and northern Nevada. Every year the group partners with other entities to restore and enhance natural habitat.

"We promote wildlife management which may be hunted or otherwise enjoyed," PCCU President Dan Hill said.

In addition to wildlife conservation projects throughout the region, the group also supports local youth. This year they gave four $1,000 scholarships to Pershing County High School graduates.

They are also supporters of the Youth Trap Shooting Team in Lovelock.

The PCCU also gives back to the community. They spent over $3,000 refurbishing Lovelock's vandalized rifle range earlier this year. Members also donated their time cooking for the Alumni Ball this year.

To fund their numerous projects the PCCU holds an annual dinner that is looked forward to by outdoorsmen every year.

This year marks the 14th Annual Pershing County Chukars Unlimited Dinner. The dinner will be held on Sept. 21 at the Pershing County Community Center. A New York steak dinner with all the trimmings will be served; tickets are $35 each with corporate tables available for $700.

Included in the evening festivities will be two raffles and a live auction featuring a Wildlife Heritage Antelope Tag and turkey tag, otherwise known as the Governor's Tags. The Wildlife Heritage tags allow the holder to hunt in any unit with an open season for the species listed on the tag, during the season dates when that unit is open for that species, and only with the weapon authorized to be used during that open season.

"There will be hundreds of raffle prizes and give-aways. Over 50 firearms will be auctioned or raffled at the dinner," Hill said.

One of the firearms to be auctioned is a custom-built Howa stainless .25-06 handmade by Gordon Hostmam.

The scholarship raffle includes a .25-06 Remington model 700xCR and a Tri-Star 12-gauge Camo over-under shotgun. Tickets are $10 each. These rifles are on display and are rotating between Whiskey Creek Saloon, Crazy Corners Saloon, Longhorn Saloon and Sturgeons Casino. Tickets can be purchased at any of these locations prior to the dinner.

"All money raised is spent in northern Nevada on a variety of wildlife projects," Hill said.
