Chukar tournament to include banquet, raffles Event to be held Nov. 5 with registration on Nov. 4

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Lander County Convention and Tourism Authority Tenth Annual Chukar Tournament and Feed will be held Nov. 5 with check-in, registration and sign-ups to be held on Nov. 4 at the Civic Center, according to the Lander County Convention and Tourism Authority board.

"I want to encourage people to come and take part in this event," said Rich Ripley, chair of the board.

Ripley said he expects people to come from all over the country to take part in this event. Last year, there were people from Alaska and Illinois, he added. He said it is a big tourism draw for Battle Mountain. The whole purpose of the event is to attract people to Lander County, said Ripley.

"It is good for Lander County because it brings in tourism revenue to the county," said Ripley.

Check-in, registration and sign-ups will be held from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Civic Center on Nov. 4 and people are also allowed to check in the morning of Nov. 5.

Hunting will be on Nov. 5 beginning at sunrise and hunters must be back to the Civic Center prior to 5 p.m. Hunting grounds consist of any legal hunting areas in the state, said Ripley.

The prizes will be purchased by the convention and tourism authority but people are welcome to donate prizes by calling (775) 635-1112.

The event includes a banquet that will be held at 5 p.m. on Nov. 5 at the Civic Center. The bar opens at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The dinner will be cooked and served by volunteers as well as tourism board members. The event will last until around 10 p.m.

The event will include a door prize and raffles. Event registration will include a chance to win the door prize, a Ranger UTV. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the banquet for $20 for five tickets. People are also welcome to donate raffle prizes. The drawing for the door prize and the raffles will be held at the banquet and people must be present to win.

Registration is $150 per person for ages 12 and up for those individuals who have a valid Nevada hunting license, said Ripley. People can pre-register now by calling (775) 635-1112 or by stopping by the tourism office inside the Civic Center.
