BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Lander County Convention and Tourism Authority's (LCCTA) 12th Annual Chukar Tournament and Feed will be held Nov. 9 with check-in, registration and sign-ups to be held on Nov. 8 at the Battle Mountain Civic Center.
"We would love to sell out our hunt tickets for the first time ever so come out to this fun and exciting event," LCCTA Executive Director Laura Schmidt said. "We have hunters coming from as far away as Virgina, South Carolina and Illinois, for example, so let's see if we can fill it up with more local hunters."
Past years have seen people from Illinois, Oregon, Idaho and Utah. Schmidt said this event is a big tourism draw for Battle Mountain. The whole purpose of the event is to attract people to Lander County, she said.
"This event is extremely important for the economy of Lander County," Schmidt said.
Check-in, registration and sign-ups will be held from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the civic center on Nov. 8 and people are also allowed to check in the morning of Nov. 9 with prior arrangements.
Hunting will be on Nov. 9 beginning at sunrise and hunters must be back to the civic center prior to 5 p.m. Hunting grounds consist of any legal hunting areas in the state, Schmidt said.
Prizes have been purchased by LCCTA through large chains such as Cabela's and Sportsman's Warehouse with a significant amount of purchases made through local businesses such as Battle Mountain Auto Supply, Country Mile Boutique and Royal Ace Hardware. These local businesses have also donated prizes along with Naughty Dog Kennels and other businesses.
Prizes include hunting and camping gear, vehicle gear, guns, scopes, artwork, an antique novelty item and an English setter puppy named Freckles. The grand prize is a UTV raffle only open to hunters.
The event includes a banquet, a live auction, games, and raffles
that will be held starting at 5 p.m. on Nov. 9 at the civic center. The dinner will be cooked and served by volunteers as well as tourism board members. The event will last until around 10 p.m.
Some of the games include spin the wheel to win a prize, Card Draw, 50 for $20, Leg Keg and other new additional games. Drawings for the raffles will be held at the banquet and people must be present to win.
