The Christ Lutheran Church and Preschool located at 55 Bastian Road in Battle Mountain held its 11th annual fundraiser at the church on Feb. 20.
The fundraiser assists with the student tuition assistance fund.
At 6 p.m., 30 students performed several songs to approximately 200 guests. The students presented a thank you card of appreciation to Pastor Mark Kliewer. Guests enjoyed cookies and punch while waiting for their names to be drawn for one of many prizes. Students went from room to room playing games and winning prizes. Preschool alumni, siblings, and 4-H members helped with the games.
This year, 113 gifts were donated for the raffle a those consolidated to a total of 85 gifts. For the 10th year in a row Newmont donated a motor vehicle. This year a 2006 Ford Explorer was donated and the lucky but not present winner was Sharon Blanthorn; her daughter-in-law, Becky, accepted the keys from Newmont representative Shar Peterson.
Ticket sales by the students and their families raised $14,177, exceeding their goal of $12,000. The top five ticket selling students were Alexa Azurmendi, Harlow Casaus, Zohie Boltz, Ariela Castaneda and Khali Peterson. There was a record set for cash donations received and that was $11,377; $772 was made at the dessert auction held at the festival; $1,000 in matching funds is to be received from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans which is dedicated to the 2014-2015 tuition assistance fund.
Preschool teachers include Gail Brannan, Dawn McClary, Teresa Whitten and high school intern Allie Legarza.[[In-content Ad]]
