BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Christ Lutheran Preschool's 9th annual February Family Fun Festival and Fundraiser culminated on Feb. 17 with an evening of festivities.

To begin the evening, 48 children performed three songs for their families and friends. Their performance was followed by a thank you presentation to the congregation of Christ Lutheran Church and Pastor Mark Kliewer for their support of the preschool.

Gail Brannan, director of Christ Lutheran Preschool, also announced the top six ticket sellers and their families. Deanna and Lilliana Castaneda were the top ticket sellers with 1,164 tickets sold, which equates to $970 for the preschool. Brian King, Joey Drown, Sophia Koseck, Zoei Cannon and Alissa Heinz were also acknowledged as top ticket sellers.

Following the announcement of the top sellers, children were dismissed to begin playing games while the drawing commenced for 135 prizes in addition to the retired Newmont truck. While the drawing was proceeding, a silent dessert auction was occurring. Jonie Davenport donated the dessert with the highest bid.

Shar Peterson was present to pull the winning ticket for the Newmont truck. The winning ticket belonged to Jaren Price, an alumnus from the preschool's inaugural year, 2002-2003! His dad, Troy Price, drove the truck home the next day.

This preschool fundraiser pays for annual expenses and tuition assistance grants for low-income or distressed families. Due to the tremendous community support of this fundraiser, Christ Lutheran Preschool's tuition cost is considerably lower than similar privately funded preschools.

The final total for the ticket sales was a record-setting $11,864. A portion of ticket sales goes toward the tuition assistance fund. Cash donations by individuals and businesses and the dessert auction proceeds are entirely dedicated to the tuition assistance fund in the amount of $4,336. The preschool will also be receiving $500 in matching funds from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, which is also dedicated to tuition assistance.

The 9th annual February Family Fun Festival Fundraiser was an outstanding success due to preschool families' efforts and the very generous support of the community.
