Christ Lutheran Preschool celebrates National Lutheran Schools Week

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Christ Lutheran Preschool celebrated National Lutheran Schools Week March 18-22. This year's theme was "Lutheran Schools: Baptized for This Moment."

The preschool staff planned several special activities to celebrate and honor Pastor Mark Kliewer, parents, students, board of education members, volunteers and staff.

Preschool parents participated in Parent Appreciation Day by spending a portion of the school day with their child. Students also enjoyed popcorn parties and small gifts during this week of celebration.

Additionally, as a service project, preschool families donated toiletries for the long-term care residents at Battle Mountain General Hospital. The preschool delivered 15 gift bags filled with toiletries as well as cards made by Pre-K students.

Preschool children presented the cards and gifts before singing to the residents. Thanks to the generosity of Christ Lutheran Preschool's families, the students are able to deliver gifts to the long-term care residents in November and in March each year.

According to statistics for the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS), Christ Lutheran Preschool is one of 1,393 early childhood centers in the nation.

The preschool opened in 2002 with an enrollment of 28 students, who attended morning sessions of the 3- and 4-year-old classes. An afternoon session was added for the 4-year-olds in 2003, and an afternoon class was added for the 3-year-olds in 2007.

Currently, 54 students attend 4 different class sessions at Christ Lutheran Preschool. These children receive a quality preschool education that equips them with positive social skills and provides them with a rich variety of learning opportunities.

Daily activities include Bible stories, art, music, math and language literacy experiences which are presented in small groups, whole group, or during free choice time.

Throughout the year, community members such as the fire department, dental office, public health nurse and BLM fire personnel make presentations to the children. The education children receive at Christ Lutheran Preschool builds the foundation for success in school and life beyond the classroom.
