Charles Richard Young, 95, of Belle Fourche died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the Fort Meade Veterans Hospital.
Charles was born April 9, 1917, in Viewfield, S.D., to Asahel and Hattie (Bills) Young. He entered the United States Army Nov. 25, 1942, serving during WWII and was honorably discharged Jan. 15, 1946.
He married Evangeline Getty Aug. 23, 1941, and to this union 3 children, Larry, Robert and Tim were born. They were married 52 years when Evangeline died in 1993. Charles worked as a welder at IMC and was a well known horseshoer throughout the Tri-State area. He was remarried on Feb. 14, 1995, to Vera Walker, until her passing in 2010.
He was a member of the Belle Fourche Moose Lodge since 1976. Charles was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his son, Larry (Rosalie) Young of Winnemucca; grandson, Alex (Tanya) Young of Winnemucca and their children, Lynnzie Young and Jerrica Young both of Cody, Wyo., and Samantha Burns and Cordel Young both of Winnemucca; granddaughter, Kimberly (Merle) Yoder of Granby, Conn., and their children, Ben Yoder, Jacob Yoder, Zach Yoder and Grace Yoder all of Granby; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evangeline Young and wife, Vera Walker; 2 sons, Tim Young and Robert Young; 4 brothers and 7 sisters.
Visitation was held from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 11, at Kline Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Belle Fourche with Father Kerry Prendeville officiating. Burial followed at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche with military honors by the Belle Fourche Honor Guard and the South Dakota National Guard.
The family suggests memorials to the Fort Meade Veterans Hospital in Charles's name.
