On April 8, 2013, Charles Ervin Zumwalt passed away at his home on the ZSummers Ranch in Catron County, New Mexico. Chuck (Zuni) was born Nov. 9, 1933, in Lordsburg, N.M. to Charles (Alec) and Mildred (Dinwiddie) Zumwalt. Chuck grew up in the Silver City, N.M., area and then spent most of his life working in the copper and gold mining industries in Kingman, Ariz., Battle Mountain, Nev., and throughout the world.
In 2003, he and his wife, Carma, came home to the family ranch where they shared their last golden years together.
Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Alec, his mother, Mildred, and his sister, Betty.
Just one short year ago he lost the love of his life, Carma Nell (Summers) Zumwalt, his wife of 59 1/2 years. He is survived by his brother, Ron (Dee) Zumwalt of Monte Vista, Colo.; his daughters, Connie (Joe) Shaeffer of Waianae, Hawaii, and Seobaghn (Bob) Arambula of Flagstaff, Ariz.; and his son, Sean (Laura) Zumwalt of Denver, N.C. Chuck is also survived by four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.
Chuck's wishes were for a cremation and no funeral services. As his surviving family mourns privately their loss of him, in the reunion of their beloved parents they will rejoice.
