Charles A. Hayes

Charles Austin Hays, 57, died Nov. 29 2014, comfortably in his home surrounded by his wife and children.

Charlie was born May 6, 1957, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Charles William and Ida Hays. There he met and married the love of his life, Jeannie. They remained there until moving to Arizona in 1986, to Idaho in 1990 and finally to Winnemucca in 1997. Charlie, his wife and two children built their first home in Winnemucca, and Charlie continued his trade of mechanics until about 1999 when he started his career in mining. Charlie worked for Newmont Mines until 2013 when his illness prevented him from continuing to work. Charlie was an ASE certified master freightliner mechanic, but was a very skilled man in everything he attempted.

Charlie was without a doubt the most amazing father, husband, grandfather and father-in-law. He was cherished beyond words by those who truly knew him. Charlie loved riding his Harley with his wife, and loved the outdoors. He spent countless hours outside looking for things to do.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Jeannie of Winnemucca and children Stefanie Hays-Lyons (Shane) and Charles Hays Jr. (Arianna) of Winnemucca, grandchildren Marissa Booth and Brittney Lyons of Winnemucca; sisters Wilma Hays, Betty Jones, Roberta Reynolds, Seriate Hays, Dottie Prentice and Charlene Griggs of Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his father Charles Hays brothers Jesse Cook and Bob Hays.

Charlie was a very humble man and did not want services to be held, but asked instead, for those who knew him to remember him fondly in their own way.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sonoma Funeral Home, Winnemucca.
