WINNEMUCCA - After a local man, Jason Prothro, suffered burns on over 75 percent of his body, Player's Bar organized a car wash to raise money for him and his family.
Last Saturday morning, volunteers, mainly friends and fellow co-workers of Jason's fiancée Nicole Dillard, started arriving to set up for the event.
Despite Mother Nature's attitude, vehicles started lining up as early as 11 a.m. By noon, volunteers were in full work force and the line of vehicles seemed never ending.
Generous people from around the community pitched in by either getting their vehicles washed, donating money, or by simply providing pastries, lunch and car wash supplies to the volunteers.
"It's excellent to see a community pull together to help out for a great cause for great people," said Josh Yost, a friend of Prothro and a volunteer.
Cars continued to show up for the cause and more volunteers arrived. Everyone appeared to be in high spirits, working hard to help out a good friend.
The efforts paid off. Player's and volunteers raised over $1,100 for Prothro.
"We are so very grateful our community made this happen," Zane Bengochea, a friend and volunteer, said.
"Before the car wash even started, we received $200 just in cash donations. By 2 p.m. we raised over $563. The community really pulled together to help out, and the advertising from the Humboldt Sun really made this charity car wash a success. I want to thank everyone that got involved to raise $1,100 for Jason. You guys rock!" Player's Bar owner Jennifer Wright said.
Jason Prothro is due home, at the earliest, on Monday.
His fiancée, Nicole Dillard, would like to personally thank all of those kind-hearted people who helped out.[[In-content Ad]]
