Silver State Chapter No. 6, Order of the Eastern Star, welcomed the Grand Officers of Nevada for their official visit on March 23.
At the official visit of the state officers to each of the 20 chapters of Eastern Star around the state members exemplify their work and introduce visiting grand officers and other dignitaries.
One of the highlights of each Official Visit is the presentation of monetary gifts to the charities supported by the state organization.
These include scholarships, cancer research, heart care, and other charities selected by the Worthy Grand Matron and Patron.
Silver State chapter was proud to present the officers with checks totaling over $6,000.
In July Silver State members, with the help of Reno members, fed over 200 miners in Reno who participating in a mine safety training event sponsored by Marigold Mining Company (Goldcorp).
As a thank you the company donated $5,000 to be given to UNR Cancer Research. Michelle Cuellar, who is a member of Silver State and works at Marigold, brought the project to the attention of the chapter and coordinated it with the chapter and Marigold, was selected to present the check to Worthy Grand Matron Elizabeth Sidford and Worthy Grand Patron George Lang.
The project sponsored by the spouses of the Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron this year is Domestic Violence Shelters.
Silver State Members collected supplies for the local shelters and also donated money to help with the local needs.
The Order of the Eastern Star is an international organization with over 5,500 in 15 countries. The members are men who are Masons and women who are related to Masons.
Though its teachings are based on the Bible, the Order espouses no religion and is neither secret nor political.
Millions of dollars are raised annually for numerous projects which benefit mankind.
