Caucus participation important

Editor:

Please see the paid notice of the scheduled Republican Party precinct caucuses published elsewhere in this edition. Precinct meetings are the foundation of ideal political organization established long ago. If you do not participate, then you have no voice in party policies and platforms and rules for the next two years. If the meetings fail to elect representation to county and later state conventions and committees, then more voice is lost. As demonstrated by some controversial intra-party decisions and actions in 2011, the party will go on with or without representation.

There are many questions about the Republican preference poll to be taken at these meetings. Votes will be counted and results announced at each precinct meeting. County results will be tabulated and reported to the state later the same day. State results will lead to proportional binding of Nevada's 31 delegates to the national convention in August. For example, assume that four candidates received 40 percent and 30 percent and 20 percent and 10 percent of the state poll results. Candidate #1 would have 13 delegates, #2 would have nine delegates, #3 would have six delegates and #4 would have three delegates. Total 100 percent and 31 delegates.

As advertised, you may contact me at 623-4715 with pertinent questions.
