LOVELOCK - Renner Equipment Company recently purchased Carpenter's Equipment Company of Lovelock. Previously owned by Hugh Montrose, Carpenter's Equipment was known throughout the Pershing County area for their dedication to the small farmer. "We want to carry on with what Hugh built," General Manager Don Renner said. To that end, all of the previous staff at Carpenter's Equipment have been retained by Renner, including Sandy Jerman and Bo Gear of the parts department and serviceman Brady Ikona. "These folks are great at customer service," Renner said. "They know the people in the valley and they go out of their way to get things that others wouldn't." Renner said his company intends to maintain Carpenter's building as a parts and service center for New Holland brand tractors and implements. The business will also carry Honda ATVs, other Honda products such as generators, weed eaters and mowers, plus Stihl products such as chainsaws. One change customers will immediately notice is the cosmetic overhaul of the building. Renner and his Sales Manager, Rob Lewis, are working to add a showroom to the building. The large sliding barn doors will be removed from the building, with more glass added to increase interior lighting. Many of the heavy shelves full of parts have been moved to the rear of the store, leaving a large open space perfect for displaying ATVs and other merchandise. Lovelock-area farmers will be able to bring their implements to Renner's local store for service, Lewis said. "We have a technician here providing service in Lovelock, and if we need to we will either send a second field serviceman to Lovelock to fix the problem, or we will ship it to another Renner location." Renner Equipment has stores in Fallon, Smith Valley and Yerington. "We understand that farmers rely on the convenience of having a local equipment store," Lewis said. "Nevada is a challenge, because it's so spread out. We have several mobile units with very well trained mechanics who can get you up and running again as soon as possible." Renner Equipment Company was started in Smith Valley in 1969 by Bill Renner. Tom and Don Renner came in as partners in 1976 with the purchase of Lommori Brothers in Yerington. Renner continued their expansion into Fallon when Bob Fable retired in 1996. They moved the store to a new building location west of town on the Reno Highway. In 1996, Renner formed a new partnership with Don Grigsby and Dan Beckett, longtime employees who purchased the stock from the retiring Tom Renner. This completed the partnership in place today: Don Renner, Don Grigsby and Dan Beckett. Renner acts as General Manager; Grigsby the Controller and Beckett as Parts Manager for all stores. In November 2011, Renner Equipment completed the purchase of Carpenter's Equipment from the retiring Montrose. Renner Equipment will celebrate the purchase of the Lovelock Store with an open house and barbecue on Wednesday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. There will be door and raffle prizes, specials on equipment and a chance for the public to meet Don Renner, Robb Lewis and Dan Beckett, as well as the Lovelock store staff.
