Carol Ann Morek Olsen, 70, of Winnemucca passed away on June 20, 2012. Born on Aug. 15, 1941, to Mareese G. Morek and Alan C. Morek of Green River, Wyoming she was destined to spend much of her life traveling. Her first "outing" in her new baby buggy took place on Dec. 7, 1941! Soon
after, her father was sent to Schenectady, NY, to build locomotives for the increased traffic caused by the war. In later years she could still remember "the Lady with the big hands" (The Statue of Liberty) and "Frankenstein's Bull" (the air-raid siren) from her brief stay in the East.
Returning to Wyoming, moving again to Erie, Penn., and finally Salt Lake City, Utah she graduated from West High School in 1959. She attended LDS Business School and landed her first job with the Paul Revere Insurance Company, before meeting and marrying the love her life Ray L. Olsen, II in 1964. In 1968, Ray began working for Kmart, and in 1969 they were joined by their son Christopher.
Working for Kmart at the time meant frequent moves (about every two years) and the family spent time in Utah, California, Washington, Oregon and Reno before finally ending up in Winnemucca.
Of her many accomplishments, Carol was especially proud of acting as a teacher's aide, in Oregon, where she helped to teach many children to read. When most people would be retiring, she started her new career as Pharmacy technician, when she and her family opened Olsen's Corner Drug Store in 2004.
She was always happiest when working, surrounded by her friends and family. Carol is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ray, her son Christopher, and her "Olsen Family" at the pharmacy. She also leaves behind her sister Aleen (Forrest) Ryan of Monroe, Washington, and numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held Aug. 11 at the Masonic Temple at 2 p.m. A small reception will be held there after the service. Those wishing to send flowers can do so at www.albertsonfuneralhome.com.
