LOVELOCK - The swift response of the Rye Patch and Lovelock Volunteer Fire Departments kept a vehicle fire from spreading to the dry desert.

Around 3 p.m. Aug. 19, the two volunteer fire departments received the dispatch to a vehicle fire on the I-80 near the Rye Patch interchange. When firefighters arrived one vehicle on a car transport eighteen-wheeler was engulfed in flames. Firefighters quickly doused the fire keeping it from starting a wildfire in the nearby desert.

The fire was apparently started by a tire fire on the trailer of the transport vehicle.
