BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Battle Mountain First Baptist Church's VBS Yo-Ho Pirate Show was a success and a blessing for all who attended and participated.
The Memory verse for the week was "I can do all things through Christ because He gives me strength" (Philippians 4:13). God brought 16 kids during the week. Each day, a different Bible story was presented and sets were changed to provide a background that matched the story.
Hero stories presented were: Moses and the burning bush; Gideon and his army; Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego in the furnace; Jesus and Peter on the sea; and Paul and the shipwreck. Stories, crafts, music and snacks all followed the day's theme.
Using a pirate backdrop and characters, the kids enjoyed a comedy skit at the daily opening and closing. The opening skit introduced the daily theme and closing skits reviewed each day's hero story.
There was an abundance of help from Elko, Spring Creek, Fort Bidwell, Calif., and the Battle Mountain FBC Youth Group. One of the music leaders led the kids in writing their own song, "Yo-Ho Yo-Ho, a Christian Life for Me." The kids all enjoyed performing it for their parents.
Director Becky Drew is anxious for next year's VBS as they explore writing their own program.
