WINNEMUCCA - The Brigham Young University-Idaho Sinfonietta, a 36-member chamber orchestra from Rexburg, Idaho, will end a two-week tour of the Northwest in Winnemucca later this month.

The group, led by Dr. Robert Tueller, will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, in the Lowry High School auditorium. Tickets are $5 each and are available at Century 21 Sonoma Realty, Rehab Services of Nevada and at the door. Children 5 and under get in for free.

All proceeds will benefit Lowry High School's Music Boosters.

The group is currently participating in a two-week tour through British Columbia and Washington state, presenting a wide range of musical selections from the great classics to modern works, drawn from the 18th through the 20th centuries.

Members of the Sinfonietta are chosen from the BYU-Idaho Symphony Orchestra by audition and represent the finest musicians on campus. Each player brings many years of previous experience, and adheres to an ambitious rehearsal and performance schedule.

The group's Northwest tour has included Cranbrook, Trail, Kelowna, Vernon, Abbotsford and Surrey, British Columbia. In Washington, the group's schedule includes Mt. Vernon, Ellensburg, Yakima, Cheney and Spokane Valley.

A sampling of concert titles for the tour include: Vaughan Williams Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, John Rutter Suite for Strings, Franz Schubert Symphony No. 5, Franz Joseph Haydn Symphony No. 24, Sergei Rachmaninoff Vocalise and Sally DeFord Three Hymn Settings.

Spencer Ekenes, a BYU-Idaho student from Spokane Valley, Wash., says of his experience in Sinfonietta, "The highlight for me is the level of musicianship we reach when we play together and become one together." The professionalism of Sinfonietta is a level higher than that of any of his previous ensembles, he says.

Tueller, a faculty member of the BYU-Idaho Department of Music, also directs cello studies, the Symphony Orchestra and University Baroque Ensemble.

Tueller's favorite part about conducting this orchestra is the opportunity he has to work with the students. "They literally are the best at what they do. These students produce beautiful, high quality music that can be appreciated by any audience," he explains.

BYU-Idaho is located in Rexburg, Idaho, and serves students from all 50 states and over 40 countries. During the past Winter Semester, enrollment stood at 13,375 students.
