Buckaroo track and field team takes part in Sierra Invite at Galena

WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School track and field team took its younger group of athletes to the Sierra freshman/sophomore invite at Galena High School in Reno on Friday, March 22.

Michael Wing was first in his flight of the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.17 seconds. Blake Hillyer placed sixth in his heat of the 200 meters at 1:05.40 and he was seventh in his 200 meter flight with a time of 28.30.

Eric Barber was third in his heat of the 200 meters at 1:20.43 and Nicholas Maddox was sixth in his heat at 1:00.10. Andrew Madrid finished with a time of 1:22.54.

Layne Burgess (5:33.80), Jacob Welty (5.34.34), Ben Tyree (5:35.86) and Ethan Andrews (5:57.68) finished sixth, eighth, 10th and 16th in the 1,600 meters.

The boys 4x800 relay was second with a time of 9:50.21, the 4x200 squad was fifth at 1:47.13 and the 4x100 relay team was seventh in a time of 53.49.

Felipe Moreno placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 101 feet, 7 inches and was eighth in the shot put at 39-4. Jared Carrica finished 13th in both the shot put and discus with throws of 35-9.50 and 89-4, respectively.

Chris Karchella placed 17th in the discus with a throw of 84-10 and Steven Cholico had a best throw of 79-8 in the discus to finish 23rd. Mikea Somers (68-10), Jesus Ortega (62-8) and Ryan Magoon (54-9) were 29th, 34th and 36th in the discus.

Alexis DeLaMora and Mikayla Wilke led the Lady Bucks as they placed third in their heats of the 100 meters and 200 meters, respectively. DeLaMora posted a time of 14.08 and Wilke 30.89. In addition, Wilke was seventh in her heat of the 100 meters at 14.74. DeLaMora added a 13th place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 20.74.

Kassidy Hudson and Brittanie Lopez were eighth and 10th in the 400 meters with times of 1:12.40 and 1:13.18, respectively. Hailey Weber finished 15th in the 1,600 meters at 7:33.18 and Jeanette Soto finished 15th in the shot put (19-4) and 19th in the discus (44-7).

The 4x200 relay (2:04.56) placed third, the 4x800 (12:37.11) was fourth and the 4x100 relay notched a fifth-place finish in a time of 58.96.

Lowry is off for the next two weeks and returns to action on Thursday, April 11, at home for a meet at 3:30 p.m.
