WINNEMUCCA - After two weeks without a meet, the Lowry High School track and field team jumped back into action in a big way last Saturday at the Fernley Invitational.
The Lady Bucks finished second as a team with 103.49 points, which included a handful of first-place finishes. Dayton claimed the team championship with 116.33 points. Spring Creek (98), Fernley (75) and Pershing County (63.50) rounded out the top five.
Rachel Sigurdson and Raven Black led a 1-2 finish for Lowry in the pole vault, with Sigurdson winning with a mark of 8 feet. Black cleared the bar at 7-6. Black outdid her teammate in the high jump with a mark of 5-0 to finish fourth, while Sigurdson was eighth at 4-6.
Savannah Ingram and Chandra Waner paced the Lady Buckaroo throwers, with Ingram winning the shot put with a toss of 35-0. The senior beat Dayton's Kaylee Turner by half an inch and went on to place fifth in the discus at 84-8.
Waner turned in an impressive third-place finish in the discus with a throw of 91-1, to go with a toss of 30-3.50 in the shot put to finish fourth.
The 4x100 girls relay of Alex Schirrick, Taylor LaTray, Auri Criddle and Meg Montero defeated Spring Creek by .18 seconds with a time of 54.94.
The 4x400 group of Criddle, LaTray, Monique Rodriguez and Montero finished with a time of 4:42.51 to beat Fernley by more than six seconds.
The foursome of Schirrick, Criddle, LaTray and Montero were second in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:57.03. Spring Creek won the race at 1:54.01. The 4x800 team of Jancy Ulch, Jasmine Anicker, Jillian Albright and MaElena Sanchez were fourth at 12:18.04.
Individually, Schirrick turned in a third-place performance in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.70, while placing sixth in the 200 meters at 29.18.
Albright, a freshman, finished third in the 800 meters in a time of 2:48.67 and LaTray was fifth in the 400 meters at 1:11.07. Hayley Hall placed sixth in the pole vault as the freshman cleared 7-0, and she was eighth in the high jump at 4-6.
Hailey Weber (3:18.01) and Sanchez (3:19.57) were eighth and ninth in the 800 meters. Courtney Boucher and Alexis DeLaMora were ninth in the 3,200 meters (16:24.41) and the 100-meter hurdles (19.37), respectively.
Rodriguez placed 10th in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 19.39 and Kelsey Killpack was 12th in the 300-meter hurdles at 1:01.36. Brittanie Lopez was 11th in the 400 meters in a time of 1:13.92 and Kassidy Hudson was 12th and 13th, respectively, in the 100-meter dash (14.71) and 200 meters (30.87). Mikayla Wilke finished 20th in both the 100-meter dash and 200 meters.
Robert Stepper led the way for the Lowry boys, placing second in the high jump as he cleared 5-10. Dayton's Benji Ply won the event at 6-0.
Cody Andersen and Taylor Martin paced the Buckaroo throwers, with Andersen finishing second in the shot put at 46-11. Dayton's Joshua Koch claimed the win at 49-11. Martin was third in the shot put at 45-0. The duo was at the top of the list in the discus as well, with Andersen placing third with a throw of 131-02 and Martin was fifth at 123-11.
Sergio Castaneda and Drake Cavanaugh also provided strong finishes in the throwing events. Castaneda finished seventh in the shot put at 42-07 and 11th in the discus with a throw of 101-4 and Cavanaugh finished eighth in the discus (110-9) and 14th in the shot put at 35-10. Castaneda was also 13th in the long jump with a mark of 16-8.
Jeremiah Teichert and Michael Billingsley were eighth and 10th in the pole vault, clearing 9-0, respectively. Beau Billingsley placed 11th in the 100 meters at 25.84, Frankie Flanders was 12th in the 300-meter hurdles at 51.37 and Chris Tyree was 13th in the 800 meters at 2:28.62. Jacob Welty placed 13th in the 1,600 meters at 5:31.01 and Hayden Jeppsen finished 13th in the 3,200 meters with a time of 12:21.84.
Kelvin Meza placed 14th and 16th in the 400 meters and 200 meters, respectively, with times of 1:00.18 and 26.38. Nicholas Maddox was 26th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:05.34 and Michael Wing placed 27th in the 100-meter dash at 12.70.
The 4x400 relay of Dylan Riddle, Maddox, Michael Billingsley and Brady Riley were third with a time of 4:10.47.
Lowry will split up its teams on Saturday between the Spring Creek and Dayton Invitationals. Both meets begin at 9 a.m.
