The Lowry High School swim team continues to see its times drop and the Buckaroos are steadily qualifying swimmers for the regional championships in Carson City in May.
Lowry traveled to Truckee on Friday, March 20, and swept South Tahoe. The girls squad pulled out as 125-121 victory, while the boys won by a comfortable margin of 135-88.
"It was a great weekend for us," said LHS coach Mike Owens. "The boys posted 17 new best times. That is pretty impressive for this part of the season. The kids are swimming well."
On the girls side, Madison Lozano posted a pair of victories in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 40.36 seconds and the 50-yard freestyle at 28.47. Teammate Kelsea Perkinson also claimed two victories, starting with the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:04.70. She also won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:20.66.
Bree LeBrun led the way in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:34.12, while Emma Kracaw (30.01), Sabrina Jensen (30.65) and Katlyn Barnes (32.50) were second, third and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle. Jensen added a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 7:16.84 and Kracaw and Emily Jock were third and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 1:08.08 and 1:14.09, respectively. In addition, Jock placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 32.73. Barnes placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:15.10.
Cheyanna Furnare placed third in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:43.40, while Bridget Cervantes (2:51.31) and Abby Flores (2:59.52) were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle.
Lowry claimed the top two spots in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with Perkinson, Jensen, Kracaw and Lozano winning with a time of 1:59.82. The foursome of Barnes, Cervantes, LeBrun and Furnare were second at 2:05.83.
Perkinson, Jensen, Kracaw and Lozano were second in the 400-yard freestyle at 4:35.45.
For the boys, Matthew Jock won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.34, while teammates Liam Walls (28.27), Jacob Hales (28.90), Garrett Gray (29.59) and Nick Petty (30.62) finished third-through sixth in the race. In addition, Gray was second in the 500-yard butterfly at 6:44.39.
The Buckaroos had the top six finishers in the 100-yard freestyle, led by Ian Maher at 1:04.34. Hales was second at 1:07.66, Nick Maddox placed third in a time of 1:09.56 and Petty (1:09.81) and Marcos Duran (1:10.83) were fourth and fifth, respectively. Roland Clement finished sixth at 1:15.12.
Tristen Waller placed second in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:31.71 and the senior was the runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:15.66. Nathan Perkinson placed second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:29.46 and he was third in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:21.63.
Franco (1:20.20), Walls (1:21.95) and Duran (1:41.90) were second through fourth in the 100-yard backstroke.
Lowry had the top three finishes in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The group of Waller, Perkinson, Walls and Jock led the way with a time of 1:49.70. Maher, Alex Shurtliff, Gray and Maddox were second at 1:54.90.
Lowry travels to Fernley for a 1 p.m. meet with the Vaqueros.
"The kids are working hard and it's starting to show," Owens said. "The goal for us is to get as many kids in the regional as possible. It's all about scoring points and having the swimmers to do that."[[In-content Ad]]
