Coming off a tough loss to Churchill County just three days earlier, the Lowry High School JV boys basketball team bounced back Tuesday night with a 41-34 win over Elko in Winnemucca.

The Buckaroos (6-1 Division I-A North, 12-4 overall) overcame a four-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter to avoid a second straight loss.

The Buckaroos scored the first nine points of the final quarter, with Dominic Diaz tying the game at 29 on a running jump shot with 4:53 to play. Thirty seconds later, Jacob Hernandez knocked down two free throws and the Buckaroos did not trail again. Jed Teichert capped off the run with a steal and layup to give the Buckaroos a 34-29 lead with 2:40 to play.

Elko closed the gap to 34-31 with 1:58 to play, but Lowry scored the next four points to lead 38-31 with 17 seconds to play and the Buckaroos held on from there.

Elko led throughout much of the first quarter, but a basket by Hernandez and two free throws by Brady Lange gave Lowry an 8-7 advantage after eight minutes of play.

The lead changed hands six times in the second quarter, when the Buckaroos netted two baskets in a row to go up by three points. Lowry went in to halftime with a 16-15 lead.

Elko came out of the break with a 14-9 run in the third quarter to lead by four points when Lowry made its comeback in the fourth quarter.

Brody Goucher led the Buckaroos with 12 points, Hernandez added eight, Lange seven, Diaz and Teichert five each and Christian Riddle and Lane Allen had two points apiece.

Lowry is back home today to host Spring Creek at 4:30 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
