WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School freshmen, junior varsity and varsity football teams will host a scrimmage on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
Reno and Elko high schools will make the trip to Winnemucca to take part in the scripted scrimmage. The teams will play on three different fields with the varsity squad playing on Jerry Tobin Field.
The scrimmage is expected to run for a couple of hours and is open for fans to watch.
Lowry's season opener is Thursday, Aug. 29, when it hosts Battle Mountain in a non-conference matchup. The junior varsity game is slated for 5 p.m. with the varsity kicking off at 7:30 p.m. The Buckaroos are coming of a 10-2 season in which they advanced to the Division I-A state semifinals for the third season in a row. The 10-2 record was the best in school history.
The remainder of the fall sports are underway as well. The Lowry volleyball season begins on Friday, Aug. 30, and Saturday, Aug. 31, with the State Farm Invitational in Winnemucca. The Buckaroo boys and girls soccer teams travel to Spring Creek on Friday, Aug. 30, and Saturday, Aug. 31, for the Spring Creek Jamboree.
The cross country and girls golf teams see their first action a week later.
