WINNEMUCCA - If you look back at individual times from a year ago and compare it to now, the Lowry High School cross country team is making small strides in getting back to near the top of the Division I-A North.

The Buckaroos were back in action on Thursday, Sept. 26, in Fernley and a number of runners continue to shave minutes off their times.

Freshman Kobe Fitzpatrick led the way for the Lowry boys, finishing 14th overall with a time of 20 minutes, 16 seconds. Ethan Andrews was 27th with a time of 21:02 and Nate Nelson was 34th at 21:48.

"Just comparing times from last year - Ethan and Nate were two minutes and two and a half minutes faster than last year," said LHS head coach Kathy Norcutt. "You can see the improvement in the kids' performance. Ethan ran a great race and the Fernley course is tough with a big hill. What I liked about Ethan and the entire team, there was more aggressiveness. We are starting to pass people, instead of sitting back."

Devin Morris finished 35th in a time of 21:50, Chanse McAllister was 40th at 22:10, Luis Brown placed 48th with a time of 22:47 and Christopher Kearns placed 50th at 22:53. Devin Dowd finished 58th in a time of 23:52, Liam Gallups was 73rd at 26:04 and Kyle Lovell finished 79th in a time of 28:21.

On the girls side, senior Jorden Raynor paced the Lady Bucks with a 19th-place outing in a time of 25:23. Freshman Charice Brown was just spots behind in 21st at 25:28.

Alondra Duenas placed 24th in a time of 25:51, Nani Ramirez was 31st at 27:12 and Haley Weber placed 32nd with a time of 27:20. Rounding out the Lowry runners were Shannon Munk (30:21) in 45th and Rebekah Goldblatt (27:33) in 54th.

"Haley was three minutes faster and Alondra had another strong race," Norcutt said. "Jorden is getting back into form and I was pleased with the way Nani ran. Nani took off three minutes off her time and this is the first time she has run this year."

Lowry traveled to South Tahoe on Wednesday for the Retro Relays and results were not available at press time. The event is a more laid-back event, with competitors dressing up in costumes. Teams are comprised of four runners, each running two miles.

The Buckaroos will make their lone home appearance on Friday, Oct. 11, when they race on the grass and asphalt course of the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.
