WINNEMUCCA - Victoria Matlock last performed to a sold- out audience at The Martin in 2009. Since then her career has grown by leaps and bounds.
Shortly after leaving Winnemucca she performed in the first national tour of "Wicked." She played the leading role of the green witch, Elphaba. This year and a half tour played in such major cities as San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Toronto, Philadelphia and in nearly any city with a theater having more than 5,000 seats.
After that, she played the leading female role in the Broadway hit show, "Million Dollar Quartet."
After a year on Broadway, she moved with the show to an off-Broadway theater. The play performed there for six more months.
"Million Dollar Quartet" is a dramatization of an unplanned jam session in 1956 that brought together four young performers just starting in the music business. What made this jam session so special was the identity of these beginning musicians: Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and another fellow with the unusual name of Elvis Presley.
Matlock played the part of Elvis' girlfriend who happened to be spending the day with him. "Million Dollar Quartet" is now playing in Chicago, at Harrahs in Las Vegas, as well as on tour around North America.
Matlock was born in Salt Lake City and graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in Musical Theater and Computer Science. For more information about Matlock, see her website, www.victoriamatlock.com or numerous songs (more than 5,000 videos) by her are available on www.youtube.com.
She will be performing a selection of songs from Broadway shows, some Christmas carols, some other favorite songs, and some songs of various genres that she has written.
The performance will be suitable for people of all ages, and Matlock will encourage young people thinking about a career in music or theater to ask questions about any aspects of a musical career: education, auditioning, income, getting the prized Actors Equity Card or whatever.
The performance at The Martin will be at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22. Tickets will be available at The Martin or online at themartinhotel.com for $15.
Matlock will spend Christmas with family and friends in Winnemucca before leaving on New Year's Day for Australia.[[In-content Ad]]
