WINNEMUCCA - Author and photographer Cynthia Delaney gladly claims Winnemucca as her home town. Although she now lives in Elko, Delaney visits Winnemucca often and recalls her days growing up when the town was much smaller.

"For some Winnemucca is just a spot on the map of a very large state," she said. "But to me it is one of the greatest places in my heart because I spent my formative years here with a lot of terrific people. Winnemucca will always be home."

Delaney's first book "Nevada Photographer: A Guide to the Rural Regions" will be on sale at this weekend's upcoming Shooting the West Symposium. Delaney will be present to sign books and chat about her experience working on this large scale project. The book is a culmination of images and information that she put together as the ultimate resource for any photographer or visitor to the state.

"I hope a lot of people will stop by and say hi," said Delaney, who will have a booth set up in the convention center Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. "Anyone can come in to look at the book. You don't have to register for the conference just to visit the vendor area. But, I do hope this encourages more people to attend Shooting the West because it is a great opportunity for aspiring photographers."

"I spent about 12 years cruising around Nevada with my camera after I returned to Nevada in 1996," she said. "While living in southern and eastern states the two things I missed the most were the wide open spaces and sparse but friendly population. I was so happy to be back that I decided I would one day devote a whole book to these out of the way places that mean so much to me."

This book is the ultimate read for every Nevada photographer. If you are a native Nevadan who considers a camera to be a fifth appendage, this book is for you. If you are a casual visitor to the state and sometimes pop a pixel or two, this book is for you. If you know nothing about Nevada or photography but hope to explore this region in the near future, this is the perfect guide.

In her hopes to guide her college and workshop students toward the benefits of "shooting up the state," Delaney has created a treasury of information. After many years exploring Nevada's outback she has teamed her iconographic imagery and site savvy into a veritable bible for pictorial people.

Inside readers can discover essential techniques for making quality photographs, detailed expeditions for the adventurous cinematographer, historical facts about really cool places and a resource guide with helpful tips on marketing and sharing your images.
