WINNEMUCCA - The Bureau of Land Management's Winnemucca District is seeking public input on an Environmental Assessment (EA) for Western Lithium Corporation's (WLC) proposed Kings Valley Clay Mine Project that would be located at Thacker Pass, (adjacent to State Route 293), 21 miles northwest of Orovada.
WLC proposes to selectively mine clay from two open pits and stockpile it on site in a designated ore-grade stockpile area. Ore-grade clay would be loaded into highway-legal trucks and transported to the end-user or purchaser.
WLC proposes to establish:
• A permit boundary.
• 2 open pits.
• 2 waste rock disposal areas.
• Ore-grade clay stockpile areas.
• 4 growth media stockpiles.
• An aggregate source (with associated aggregate stockpiles) and mobile aggregate screen.
• An ongoing exploration program utilizing drilling equipment, roads and drill pads.
• Use of 2 on-site water wells as a non-potable source for dust suppression.
• Ancillary facilities including storm water controls, office/first-aid trailer, parking, ready line and fencing.
• Access improvements to State Route 293.
The pits, waste rock disposal area, roads, and ancillary facilities would result in 110 acres of total disturbance, employ 14 employees, and have a total mine life of about 23 years, including reclamation.
Upon completion of mining, the operation would be closed and reclaimed with the land being returned to the pre-mining uses.
The public is invited to submit comments relative to the development of an EA until May 19.
Please send written comments to Mr. Mark Hall, project lead, or email wfoweb@blm.gov with "WLC Kings Valley Clay Mine (Hall)" in the subject line.
