BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Mount Lewis Field Office, is seeking public comments on the Environmental Assessment (EA) for a proposed modification to existing operations within the Cortez Gold Mines Operations Area, located 24 miles south of Beowawe, in Lander and Eureka counties.
Barrick Cortez, Inc. has submitted an Amendment to the Plan of Operations (Project). The Project would include reconfiguration of the North Waste Rock Facility (NWRF), stormwater diversion and power line relocation, conveyor corridor disturbance, and development of an oxide ore stockpile on top of the NWRF.
The Project also includes relocation of refractory ore to Barrick's Goldstrike Mill over a period of eight years, construction of a potable water well and pipeline, construction of electrical capacitors and power lines, and installation of rangeland fence adjacent to a segment of County Road 225.
The comment period began on Dec. 27 and ends on Jan. 27, 2014. Written comments received during this 30-day comment period will be considered during the decision-making process.
