BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Battle Mountain District, Tonopah Field Office has completed the Stone Cabin Complex Wild Horse Gather that ran from Feb. 5 - 18.
A total of 726 wild horses were re-gathered and 210 were released back into the Herd Management Areas. There were 107 mares treated with PZP, a fertility drug, and subsequently released. Throughout the gather, 488 wild horses were transported to either Gunnison Prison Holding Facility in Utah or Ridgecrest Holding Facility in California where they will be prepared for adoption.
A Trap Site Adoption was held on Jan. 18. Before the event 12 yearlings were held back and prepared for adoption. Possible adopters started viewing the animals at 9 a.m. and selected the animal(s) they wanted to adopt at 10 a.m. Three adopters took seven of the available 12 yearlings. The adopters were excited about the colors and the condition of their new friends.
