Battle Mountain - The Bureau of Land Management, Battle Mountain District, Mount Lewis Field Office, has released the Final Environmental Impact Statement for Eureka Moly LLC's Mount Hope Molybdenum Mine. The BLM will issue a final decision after a 30-day comment period is completed.
The proposed mine would be located in central Nevada about 23 miles northwest of Eureka, near U.S. Highway 278. The project would include a power transmission line, a water well field, and all associated mine-processing facilities. If approved, the mine is expected to have a project life of nearly 80 years, including work associated with reclamation. It is estimated that the proposed project would provide an average of about 400 jobs with a peak employment of 615 personnel during construction. The proposed project would be located on 8,092 acres of public land and 263 acres of private land. Molybdenum is a valuable mineral used in the manufacture of steel alloys.
"After a thorough environmental review, I am pleased to announce that the Final EIS has been completed," said Christopher Cook, Field Manager for the Mount Lewis Field Office. "The BLM has worked extensively with the Cooperating Agencies and the public to produce a comprehensive review of the proposed project. In particular, the BLM appreciates Eureka County's extraordinary efforts to work collaboratively with the BLM in the preparation of this Final Environmental Impact Statement."
