BLM Northeastern Great Basin RAC schedules 2013 meetings

ELKO - The Bureau of Land Management will meet with the Northeastern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council two times this year - June 27 in Elko and Sept. 12 in Ely. All meetings are open to the public.

The RAC advises and makes recommendations to the BLM on public land management. Discussion items will include, but are not limited to, renewable energy development and transmission, sage-grouse, BLM Battle Mountain district resource management plan, wild horse and burro program and ongoing drought issues.

The June 27 meeting will take place at the California Trail Interpretive Center, located eight miles west of Elko at Hunter exit 292, beginning at 9 a.m.

Agenda items for discussion include: Trail center status and future operations, overview of northeast Nevada drought, overview of the three HMA gathers, and an update on the sub-regional greater sage grouse EIS.

The public may present general written and/or oral comments to the RAC beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The Federal Land Policy and Management Act directs the Secretary of the Interior to involve the public in planning and discussion of issues related to management of BLM-administered public lands.



The Northeastern Great Basin RAC is one of three such councils in Nevada that accommodates this community participation directive. Represented on the council are commercial and non-commercial users that include elected officials and state agencies, environmental, livestock, mining, Native American, and wild horse and burro.
