Lowry High School's Beau Billingsley won the 182-pound championship at the Sierra Nevada Classic, held Monday and Tuesday in Reno. Billingsley, a senior, went 6-0 over the two days and defeated Tanner Harvey of Lowell High School 7-3 to win the title.
Billingsley had to win in overtime in one of his earlier matches to advance to the championship.
Teammate Luis Cardenas finished second at 285 pounds. Also a senior, Cardenas was 5-1 in the tournament, losing to Jacob Minshew of Casa Roble.
Cardenas won his quarterfinal and semifinal matches by 1-0 decisions to advance to the final.
A third senior, Gabe Molina, placed sixth for the Buckaroos at 132 pounds. Molina wrestled eight times over the two days, going 5-3.
As a team, Lowry finished fifth with 142.50 points. The Buckaroos were third in 2011.
Del Oro (Calif.) was first with 228 points, Folsom (Calif.) was second at 224 and Servite (Calif.) was third with 217.50 points. Oakdale (Calif.) was fourth with 192.50 points.
Lowry was the highest finishing Nevada school, with Reno (113) eighth, Carson (111) ninth and Shadow Ridge (110) out of Las Vegas was 10th. The next Division I-A school in the standings was Spring Creek in 29th.
Churchill County finished 36th and Elko was 42nd.
