WINNEMUCCA - Even though the high school football season has been done for almost three months, the 3A all-state selections were finally decided by the league coaches last month.
Just as it was with the Northern 3A choices, Lowry High School's Jace Billingsley was named the Most Valuable Player and Bryan Noble the Defensive Player of the Year.
Fernley's Kenney Bradley was named the Offensive Player of the Year, Taylor Schwartz (Moapa Valley) was the Lineman of the Year and Truckee's Bob Shaffer was the Coach of the Year.
The Buckaroos went 9-3 this season, including a second-place finish in the Northern 3A at 6-2. Lowry reached the state semifinals for a second consecutive season, losing 19-6 to Moapa Valley.
Billingsley rushed for 2,360 yards and scored 30 touchdowns for the Buckaroos this season. Noble, who played linebacker for Lowry this season, led the team with 136 tackles. In addition, Noble was named to the honorable mention team on offense as a tight end.
The Buckaroos had two other players named to the first-team, all-state squad in A.J. Ourada at offensive tackle and Nic Velasquez at defensive end.
Cody Andersen was named to the second team as an offensive guard and Fernando Herrera (defensive line), Michael Billingsley (linebacker) and Gus Duncan (cornerback) were picked to the honorable mention squad.
